Red Mountain House

The room was spacious and well equipped, but what happened one morning made me feel unsafe enough to check out immediately. I was alone in the bathroom getting ready when I noticed the doorknob turning. The latch was on, so I froze, wondering if I'd imagined it. Then it turned again and someone tried the door a second time. I screamed because I was scared for my safety. I hurried to the door and heard someone outside. I knew I was the only guest at the B&B, and had no idea who was trying to get in or why. I was too frightened to speak. Even after hearing me scream, the person said nothing and stayed outside for several minutes before leaving. No one was at reception when I checked out. Later I was contacted and told it had been housekeeping. I found that explanation extremely concerning and unacceptable. Why try to enter a room so early, between 08:00 and 08:30, then try again after meeting the latch? And why stay outside without identifying yourself after a guest screams? I was left shaken, and I can't accept the explanation. I won't return, and I strongly advise others to be cautious about staying here.

The location is great and the rooms are nice, though you can hear some noise from the restaurant downstairs.

We had a great stay. The rooms were super clean, and they provided wood for the fireplace, though you'll need to buy more if it's cold. Best of all, it's right on the square. We'll definitely stay here again.

We had a great check-in, and the receptionist went out of her way to arrange reserved parking during a very busy time in Clarens. The room was clean and comfortable, and the hotel is wonderfully placed on Clarens Square, close to attractions and places to eat. I'd definitely stay again.
