Ebenezer Guesthouse

It was not a great experience. The place is beautiful and we could get a room straight away, but all the rooms are part of a house with wooden floors. Late arrivals are catered for, yet nobody warns them that other guests may already be asleep. The noise can be daunting, especially with young children, who are very unhappy once woken. I wouldn’t recommend this guest house to anyone who considers themselves decent, as it may leave you itching somewhere you can’t scratch. To those who are so inconsiderate, may you be blessed.

The room and bathroom were very clean, and we had everything we needed, including an en-suite, TV, fast wifi, and aircon. It’s right across from the OK, which made it convenient to pick up snacks and things for dinner. We were a bit worried when we found out our room was in a house, but once inside the room, we’d never have known it was part of one.

We didn’t stay here at all during our stopover on the way to Stilbaai. While we were driving there, the owner canceled our accommodation because she was panicked about not receiving payment. We had the SMS POP from FNB, but she decided it wasn’t valid. This came after an earlier mess where booking.com said the card used had declined. She sent frantic WhatsApp voice notes to my partner, confused him with someone else, then said we could pay cash on arrival and skip booking.com to save R300, which didn’t seem very honest toward booking.com. He agreed, but she kept bombarding us with calls and messages asking whether we were on our way. She treated us like con artists, then canceled after we’d paid because the payment wasn’t immediate, though she hadn’t said it needed to be. I called my bank to get an email POP to download, but she had blocked us so we couldn’t send it. When we said we’d leave a bad review, she replied, “go ahead, my lawyer will love this,” and blocked us. She came across as panicked, rude, and unprofessional, as if she didn’t know how to run a business. We found somewhere else to stay and, if you ask me, dodged a bullet. I’ll report back on whether she refunds the payment, because it really was made.

We had to cancel our booking because of unexpected circumstances, and they were kind and accommodating.
