Thatchings Guest House

The wildlife around the estate, including impala, zebra, and eland, was a pleasure to see. The gardens are exquisite, with carefully planned paths still being developed. Vinelda's husband Robbie was often around handling maintenance and adding new electrical points. They even let us park our caravan in the parking area and connected it to electricity so we could keep the fridge running. They also offered to do our washing. Our four-night stay at Thatchings Guest House exceeded expectations. We arrived at 7 pm, much later than planned because of road works, but Vinelda came out to meet us in the driveway and show us our room. It had a fridge, a king bed, a large bathroom, a walk-in shower, and toiletries, everything we could have wanted. It was my husband's birthday, and she had made us a delicious home-cooked roast and a chocolate mousse birthday cake. So sweet! They offer bed and breakfast, with a wonderful range of choices served in a cozy room overlooking the picturesque dam. You can also request the meal of the day for dinner. We got plenty of suggestions for places to visit, restaurants, delis, and farmers markets, and they kept checking that we were happy and making the most of our stay. It really feels like a home away from home. Thatchings is a gem and much more reasonably priced than similar accommodation nearby. We wish Vinelda and Robbie all the best with their continued venture.

The view of the dam was lovely, and the animals were great to see. The hosts were professional and amazing, and the rooms and bathrooms were clean. Breakfast was great, too. A homely place that feels like a home away from home. I'd recommend it for family trips or a getaway on your own.

The breakfasts were delicious, and the food became a highlight of our trip. We had a very comfortable two-night stay, with a spacious room that was warm on a cold night thanks to the heater and electric blanket. My partner and I were in the area for a wedding in early October. Heavy rain made it difficult for our vehicle to get around, so I called the owners in the early evening. They arranged safe, secure parking at another venue and came down to fetch us and take us to the guest house. The owners and staff went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable and had a pleasant visit. An amazing place to stay!

The room was gorgeous, with a luxurious bed, electric blanket, and even a long hot water bottle for extra comfort. I loved seeing wildlife roaming freely around the beautiful setting. Winelda greeted me so warmly that I felt at home right away. It was an unforgettable stay, and I'll absolutely be back. A perfect spot for a ladies' weekend getaway.
