The Capital Zimbali

Copper Restaurant deserves a standing ovation. I’ll remember the lamb curry bunny chow for a long time. The seafood paella, fish dishes, and breakfasts were all wonderful too. You can taste the care from the kitchen. I wanted to take the whole restaurant back to Johannesburg so I could eat there every week. The people made our stay at The Capital Zimbali feel like coming home. When we arrived on Thursday, the ladies at reception greeted us with smiles, laughter, and such warm hospitality. Their playful sisterhood really showed the family feeling among the staff, and made us feel part of it too. We sipped welcome drinks surrounded by tropical scenery and ocean views, with the waves, birds, soft linen, comfortable couches, and warm coastal air all helping us relax. Everyone was professional without feeling cold. The personal, easy service was consistent across reception, housekeeping, the beach club behind Mangwanani Spa, and Copper Restaurant. Housekeeping took care of even our smallest requests quickly, and the turn-down service made us feel like royalty. Every space was looked after with pride. Leaving today felt emotional, like saying goodbye to family. Thank you, The Capital Zimbali, for giving us room to rest, reconnect, breathe, and just be. We’re relaxed and rejuvenated, and already planning to return. It’s become somewhere we want to come back to again and again. The standards are on another level, and the people are even more so. We’ve been coming to The Capital Zimbali for years. After we raised some concerns earlier this year, management invited us back, and I’m glad to say the improvements were noticeable and impressive. The team was attentive from arrival through departure, with thoughtful, proactive interactions that made us feel welcome and happy. It was good to see the high standards and family-friendly atmosphere we first fell in love with return. Credit to management and the staff for listening and acting on the feedback. We really enjoyed our stay and look forward to many more visits.

We’ve stayed here before, back when it was still Fairmont, but we think the room rates are overpriced and won’t book again. As day visitors, we paid R300 each for vouchers that could be fully redeemed on meals and drinks. The estate checks entry strictly, which I suppose helps with safety. The kids loved the huge pool, though it isn’t heated. Stingray Cafe had good food, better than an average pool bar, and the atmosphere there was great with attentive staff. Christmas Dinner was expensive, with lovely decor and a great vibe, but the food wasn’t that good. I still wouldn’t recommend the buffet meals.

We held our year-end function at Capital Zimbali, and the team made sure everything went smoothly. Nadine handled the bookings brilliantly, staying responsive and professional while accommodating our group’s requests. Juan also deserves thanks for his dedication and excellent service. Everyone was warm and attentive, and the meals were delicious with a good range to suit different tastes. The ocean views made a stunning setting for the celebration. I’d highly recommend Capital Zimbali for events, and we’ll be back.
