Buckliegh Guest house was a real gem for our stay in Durban North. We were waiting for transport, and the receptionist was so sweet and went out of her way to make us comfortable. The rooms were spot on, the location was great, and the hospitality was top-notch. You’ll be sorted here, so I highly recommend it to anyone visiting Durban. Five stars, no doubt.

The pool area was the only good part of our stay. Inside, the room was dark, gloomy, and smelly, and the bedding and couches didn’t look clean. The rooms also looked nothing like the website photos. The common kitchen was terrible, dirty, and poorly maintained. A packet of sanitary towels stayed in the living room for more than 16 hours. When I raised the mess, I was told, “sorry the place is mess the cleaners are still busy.” The “family room” had a smoking area by the door, and I repeatedly had to ask two guests to stop smoking weed there because we had kids with us. They replied, “but we've been smoking here all week.” That gave me the impression of poor management. We paid R2400 for two rooms, compared with R4000 a night for seven rooms at an Airbnb that was clean and kid-friendly. We moved there because we couldn’t stay another night. I wouldn’t recommend this accommodation to families or anyone with a certain standard of living. For a place in Durban north, I’d expected much more. It definitely wasn’t worth it.

The staff are lovely, friendly people, and the swimming pool is always clean. It’s quiet and relaxing, with a shopping centre just around the corner. We really enjoyed our time here and will definitely be regulars on our Durban trips.
