Fairway Guesthouse

We had a ground floor room with the ocean right in front, plus lots of greenery, which I loved as a plant lover. The grounds are beautifully kept, with open seating, swings and benches in the garden. The manager and staff were helpful around the clock, and the catering team were attentive and friendly. They can accommodate dietary requests. Breakfast is free for guests staying at the property and costs extra for visitors. It's on a beach about 10 km north of Durban city centre, in the diverse Umhlanga side, with beaches, shopping and grocery malls, places of worship and peace. The Virginia airport is a short walk away, and the property was developed mainly for pilots training on different aircraft. Construction in front of the patio can be disturbing, though it was manageable. There are room options for different budgets, all well maintained and cleaned daily. I'd recommend it to people looking to stay in this part of the city.

The food was nice, but you can tell the Guest House was converted from a house. Construction below the property also makes it hard for guests to get good photos. The venue lacks class, though it's okay for the neighbourhood.

From the pool deck, you get a wide, beautiful view over the Indian ocean. Fairway Gues House is owned and run by Melanie and Aubrey van Greunen, and there’s safe off-road parking.

I couldn’t accept being told breakfast couldn’t be served just 14 minutes after 11. The explanation that there was nowhere to fry eggs didn’t convince me, so I got up and went down the road to Fabrica.
