Florida Road

The balconies outside are beautiful, the security is terrific, and the WiFi is great too. This comfortable, stately hotel made the stay fabulous. Every staff member was courteous, friendly, and quick to help with requests. Nana and Boniswa made breakfast especially lovely. The food was excellent and beautifully prepared, and the coffee was just right. There’s a healthy range of menu options, which made a business trip more enjoyable. Since we had an early flight, they put together a lovely takeaway breakfast for the trip to the airport. It made my day. Gillian at reception and Sarhana helped with admin requests. When we had a problem with the shower tap, Nomphu arranged for a plumber within the hour.

Our room was really spacious, with a wraparound balcony, and the bed was comfortable enough that we slept very well despite some bothersome road noise. The period building has lovely original features, and it’s close to many restaurants on Florida road.

I had a whole lounge area to get ready in, and they were happy to extend checkout if needed. Months before my wedding, I’d explained that I needed the room for getting ready, with my stylists and photographers coming through. When I arrived tired that night, just a couple of hours before the wedding, they’d laid out petals in a heart shape and gave me such a warm welcome. It’s a beautiful spot for wedding photos, with great light and a vintage feel if that’s what you like. Thanks for all your help that day, I really appreciated it!

Breakfast in the solarium was delicious, and the hotel has an incredible atmosphere. It’s charming and comfortable, but the staff really make you feel at home and go out of their way for you. Without people like that, hotels are just bricks and pillows.
