Peermont Metcourt Hotel at Umfolozi

A phone was left in the bathroom during our conference. When we called it, a gentleman named Zondo picked up and said he had found it. Really appreciate that kind of honesty and good ethics. Well done.

I couldn't find any casino reviews, so I wanted to give a shout-out to SAMKE. When another waitress argued with me over her lack of professionalism around patrons, I was very unimpressed by the loud way she spoke around guests and the other poor behaviour I noticed. It also affected the service I was getting. I called her over to order, but she showed no remorse. SAMKE stepped in before things got out of hand on the casino floor. She handled the conflict with maturity and professionalism, and showed that she values us as patrons. I was impressed by her intelligence and the way she managed a situation that could have caused chaos. The hotel should develop more staff like her. Thank you.

The food was a letdown, even though the steak itself tasted nice. I ordered it medium rare, but waited nearly 40 minutes and it came out hard as a rock, well overdone. Before that, the buffet was just chicken and rice with very little choice, and the first two spoonfuls were so bad I couldn't finish. I was still hungry, so I ordered from the menu. Getting into the hotel was a struggle too. I stood at reception for about 30 minutes with nobody at the desk. A passing waitress didn't seem concerned when I asked, and said the receptionist was on a “BREAK” and she'd have to go find her. When the receptionist finally came out, she didn't apologize and blamed the waitresses for not telling her a customer was waiting to check in. My room was incredibly stuffy as well. Don't book here unless you're really desperate. It's not worth spending your money on unless all you need is an overnight shelter. Thank God I was only booked for one night.

The one thing I really appreciated was that they let us book and waited for us to pay, without pressuring us to pay right away. The guy at reception was trying, shame. I hope the hotel keeps him and he doesn't get pulled down by the negative atmosphere around him. I think his name was Dean or something. Thank you for your service, Sir. We really appreciate it. The rest of the stay was disappointing. There was a funny smell as we entered, like a broken toilet, the AC in the rooms wasn't working, and breakfast was horrible. Most of the restaurant staff seemed unhappy and were hard to approach, with no smiles. Only three people showed even a little enthusiasm, but unfortunately I forgot their names. This feels like a place to stay when you're desperate, not somewhere to enjoy a holiday. The hotel needs to raise its standards, talk with staff about their issues and sort them out. Service, food and rooms all need upgrading.
