Sugar Hill Manor Guesthouse

After 12 hours at work, coming back to the guesthouse meant warm greetings and views over the rolling green hills. It was so peaceful you could sit and watch for hours. Graham was a hospitable owner who chatted with guests and entertained everyone with stories about his life and travels. We stayed for 13 days, and were welcomed on arrival and made to feel at home. We had free rein of the guesthouse, so we took the chance to cook our own meals, as typical "Indian Women". It's a beautiful place, though a few things could use some TLC. If you want to feel at home and have freedom, this is the place.

I wouldn't recommend this place for a relaxing outing. The TV remotes didn't work, and the noise was a problem too. A couple of young men were playing loud music while making a braai, so at 21h00 I called the supervisor to complain. He took his time, and even after speaking to them they carried on for a while before turning it down. I still wasn't happy about how it was handled and nearly left that night.

Graham was friendly, and I had a wonderful time getting to know Zulu culture and local people in Eshowe. The room was comfortable, the view spectacular, and my stay was amazing. Highly recommended!

The gate was a real problem. It wouldn't open, and I spent minutes trying to get in and out. I also found the place unclean: the breakfast didn't look good, I couldn't eat it, and the person serving was wearing dirty pajamas. I booked four nights but couldn't manage even one, so I found somewhere else to stay and came back for breakfast the next morning. The place is totally outdated. They should get staff to clean and cook proper meals, sort out the embarrassing gate issues, modernize the rooms a little while keeping their style, and have a small office for check-in and check-out.
