The Hexagon

When I’d just moved to Uitenhage and didn’t know anyone in the Eastern Cape, Uncle Clive and Aunt Babs made me feel at home right away. The owners are so welcoming, and the place is beautiful, clean, and calming. The rooms are cozy, and the food is delicious.

Our family’s cabin was a good size, clean, and well maintained, and the service was friendly, caring, and professional. The rates for both accommodation and food are affordable, with meals costing much less than at restaurants. The venison was incredible, and the portions were just right. Nature lovers will like the location, and the grounds have children’s play gyms, braai areas, a romantic bench swing, and a restaurant. Everything we read about the facilities was accurate, and the owners describe the place well. I don’t understand the complaints, since it delivered what they promised and more. Thanks for a fantastic stay and for keeping up the great service.

I’m from Johannesburg and dealt with a woman named Sanda. I paid a R2,000 deposit for a December booking, but she never sent the email she promised as proof that the booking was confirmed. Worse, she won’t take our calls or reply to our messages, even though she reads them. We’re now left stranded, with no communication, no email, and no refund after requesting one. Please be very careful when booking with the Hexagon in Uitenhage.

We drove 12 hours to reach THE HEXAGON, then found miles of unpaved road that none of the reviews or the site had made clear. After 10-15 minutes on it, our vehicle’s wheels and body had taken a beating, and it wasn’t built for off-road driving. We worried that repeated trips over that road could burst a tyre or leave us stranded somewhere unfamiliar without friends or relatives to help. So we decided we couldn’t stay the full seven nights. We’d booked for five adults and one child, and paid R3500 by EFT upfront, half the total and non-refundable. A WhatsApp message had clearly said the rate was R1000 per night. We explained to the host that we couldn’t stay the whole time and asked to stay three nights, which the R3000 rate covered. We were there at check-in time and didn’t mind losing the balance, since it was non-refundable. Instead, they said we had to pay another R500, making the total R4000, and would only be allowed to stay one night, though we thought we’d paid for four. This is long, but please read it through; it might save you time and money.
