Lagoon Lodge

We visited a few weeks ago with friends from France, who were visiting South Africa. The noise was a problem, including early morning noise from management outside the rooms on the balcony. The rooms have no air conditioning, and guests are warned about baboons when they arrive, something I’d want to know before booking. Management came across as dismissive and unhelpful, and responded defensively to reviews instead of addressing recurring problems. We called ahead specifically to ask about the water and were reassured, but the shower pressure and temperature were poor when we got there. We were given excuses instead of solutions. Breakfast was extremely basic and disappointing, with tiny portions, including a teaspoon of mushrooms, and an omelette so thin it was almost nonexistent. The stay wasn’t worth the price. I’d strongly suggest looking for cheaper accommodation that’s better managed.

We felt safe and at ease throughout our research trip. Appel was a kind and genuinely helpful host, and the tips on where to go to better see and understand the area were a great bonus. The rooms were always clean and breakfast was amazing. I’d go back just for the coffee, haha.

The view was lovely, and management were very welcoming. The rooms are a bit dated, but the prices are very reasonable, so you get what you pay for. Being alongside the N2 means trucks can make it very noisy all night. I’d suggest adding railings along the steps, which can feel precarious, especially since the sign-in says everything is at our own risk. I was a bit nervous walking to Muse, though it was an awesome restaurant. Thanks for recommending it. Oops, I lost two photos of the room.

There are cheaper places nearby that are much more comfortable. This establishment felt very dated, and the rooms have no air conditioning. The bedding and linen were greasy, and the property could be quite noisy, especially the “lagoon view” rooms. The so-called “World famous breakfast” was as basic as the establishment. I don’t recommend staying here.
