Charles, the caretaker, was the only staff member we saw who could help. He tried his best with very limited resources, but the owners were hardly visible and seemed to put the restaurant ahead of their guests. The rooms and the view are beautiful, but poor maintenance and the lack of care made for a terrible five-night stay. I wouldn't recommend it if you want comfort and peace, especially with the water and electricity problems. We had electricity for only one of our five nights. It went off the first night, and there was no backup. The owner brought small lights that needed charging in the sun. The next morning the power was still out, though they ran a generator for the restaurant, and we were told nothing could be done. Food left in the microwave greeted us on arrival. There were no towels until we asked Charles, and the ones he found were shabby. Water was shut off and only turned back on after we complained. We had cold showers for two days, and there were cockroaches. On New Year's Day, we were told to clean our own rooms because all the staff were off. When our food spoiled during the power cuts, we went out for dinner. It rained heavily while we were out, and on our return the remote wouldn't open the gate because sand was stuck in it. We waited 30 minutes for poor Charles to clear it.

Our five nights there were rough. The linen wasn't changed at all, even though some of us have night sweats, and rooms weren't cleaned properly. If we left a towel on the sofa, it was still there just as we'd left it. On arrival, the microwave had a plate of rotten food. There were days without electricity, unrelated to load reduction, so we had cold showers and the food in the fridge went bad. The service was bad.

The bedrooms were nice and the view was okay, thanks to Charles, the caregiver who was there. But the owner or manager was absent, and guests seemed to be treated nonchalantly while the restaurant was the only thing taken seriously. The electricity kept going on and off, and I don't understand why we were treated so badly.

The view was beautiful, and the restaurant food was delicious and nicely presented. Melanie and her staff gave us such a warm welcome, and our room was spacious and lovely, with everything we needed. We'll definitely be back soon 😃

We had a good family stay during the July school holidays. It's a cozy, peaceful base for nature lovers, with beautiful scenery around and convenient access to wildlife and outdoor adventures. KNP is just around the corner, so it's a handy place for exploring one of Africa's premier safari destinations.
