Pacem cottage

Looking out from the balcony, with the mountain on one side and the ocean on the other, you almost feel like you’ve been transported somewhere else. Pacem is a lovely find at the foot of Fernkloof Nature Reserve, just a stone’s throw from Grotto Beach. We wanted an affordable local break during the pandemic, without travel hassles or exposure to a high-risk environment. We also needed two bedrooms and bathrooms, WiFi, a TV, a supportive couch, a comfortable bed, and a well-equipped kitchen. The cottage gave us all that in a quiet, clean, safe spot that followed Covid 19 protocols, without feeling cut off from everything or stuck in a noisy hotel or frilly boutique apartment. Merryl gave us a warm welcome and made the key handover easy, with complimentary coffee. Malan kept her updated on our communications, thank you. The living room feels cosy under its well-insulated high thatch roof, with nicely placed lighting. There are heaters in every room, extra bedding, backup lights, a gas stove, and ample secure parking. The neighbourhood is peaceful, and there’s hiking, a walk to the beach, and a local grocer and mall just a few minutes away by car. I imagine it gets a bit busier in high season, but we’ll definitely be back. Highly recommended.

We had a really restful stay in this spacious cottage, with lovely views. The mountain hiking route is only about a hundred metres away.

The hosts were so friendly. They showed us around, explained how everything worked, and suggested places to see along with cafes and restaurants. The house itself was great, and the barbecue on the second floor came with all the equipment, so we didn’t need to buy a thing. I definitely recommend staying here.
