The cultural show was a highlight, with lovely singing and dancing that brought the culture to life. The team also answered all our questions, and there’s a hut showing the medicines used. The ladies were happy to dress us in the striking, unusual garments. You can shop there too, or simply take in the culture. Such a magical place, and definitely worth a stop if you’re heading to Hluhluwe.

Fikile was a friendly, versatile cultural guide, engaging with the different groups I saw there, from local scholars to international visitors. The tour was informative and interesting, and I’d recommend the experience to anyone wanting to understand diversity.

The staff were fantastic, especially when the storms damaged the water pump and Eskom took more than four days to fix the problem. They offered us a stay at Bushland instead at no extra cost. That showed us what kind of people they are, superb and excellent. The place itself was clean and neat, a lovely setting for peace of mind and a chance to experience the beauty of African cultures.

Don’t rely on Google Maps to find the place. It’s a charming, older lodge, and that age is part of what makes it special. The two ladies running it and their team were fantastic. Lovely scenery, good walking, and chances to see animals.
