The best thing for me was that there was only one plug point, upstairs in the lounge. It helped me switch off on holiday, and I mostly used my phone for navigating around. Looking back, it was a lekker glamping stay for a budget-friendly price. We saw wildlife from the lookout, slept in a comfy bed and had hot running water and the amenities we needed. The staff caring for the property were friendly, helpful and welcoming, and everything was clean and well maintained. I'd say try it and judge for yourself. The drive in was a bit of a challenge. We arrived very late, couldn't see the turnoff sign for the 15km gravel road, and it took about 30 minutes because we didn't have a 4x4. The huts were the scariest part for me at first. Anyone or any animal could walk up the steps, unhook the latch and open the door. The windows were just cut-out rectangles covered with canvas. Even with a mosquito net over the bed, I panicked on the first night and barely slept. The next night was much better, and I woke up perfectly fine on Day 2. The outdoor shower surprised me too. I liked the idea at first, until I looked up mid-shower and saw other guests looking toward me from the lookout point. I crouched to hide, then managed to finish my hot shower and get dressed in the enclosed area. The bathroom has wooden poles around it but is open to the air. The kitchen had a freezer, fridge, stove and running water, but it is open air, so monkeys and other creatures can get at food left on the counters. There are lots of places to sit. We also saw a huge black snake slither from under a neighboring hut, across the walkway and around to the other side of the property. It happened on our last day, after we'd packed the car and said goodbye to family who were staying longer. I ran to the car and couldn't wait to get home. There are other options, like family houses, if you'd rather be less exposed to nature. But if you want the full outdoors experience, I'd suggest the huts. I was a first-timer in the bush and had a lekker time, even if much of what unsettled me came from inexperience.

We had booked three nights but left after one because we couldn't face another hot, sleepless night. There were no fans in the chalets, despite electricity being available, and the heat made sleeping hard even with mesh windows. We didn't want to leave the door open and risk a leopard or monkey coming in, as we'd been warned could happen. In the end, we used a wet towel to cool our skin. The mosquito net didn't fit properly over the double bed. It was a shame about the horse riding safari too. My husband sent two or three emails before we arrived to ask about booking one, but nobody replied. When we asked the owner in person, there were horses there, but she kept changing the subject and suggesting places to visit nearby. A simple yes or no would have been enough, but we never got an answer, so we gave up. The place itself is a lovely, cosy self-catering spot in a private nature reserve near Kruger National Park, and the staff were friendly and welcoming. Since it was early in the week and there were no other visitors, they upgraded us to the family chalet at no extra charge, so we had the place to ourselves. The wooden chalets have thatched roofs. The communal kitchen is open air under thatch for shelter from sun and rain, and the shower and toilet areas are open air behind a wooden wicker fence. There was also a shallow splash pool, nice for cooling off, and a short walk to an animal hide overlooking what seemed to be a watering hole behind bushes. We would have stayed if there'd been some kind of fan.

We had a very comfortable stay and enjoyed it a lot. The service was very good, and the area was peaceful. I'd recommend going there. Thanks to the of beat safari.
