Royal Malewane

Our safari with Royal Malewane was the highlight of a trip across several countries. The kids still talk about it, and we’re already planning to return. We’ve travelled widely, but nothing else compares to this soulful, life-changing experience. From the moment we arrived, Andi and Jeff welcomed us with warmth, professionalism and a remarkable depth of knowledge. Their enthusiasm for wildlife and respect for nature made each drive exciting and meaningful. We received a beautiful gallery of photos and videos afterward, and every detail, from that to the breathtaking sightings, felt thoughtfully planned. A member of my family was injured during a game ride with Royal Malewane, but the team brushed off what happened and refused to take responsibility. We emailed them and they dismissed us, telling us to claim through travel insurance instead. It’s expensive and the service was horrible. Avoid.

Ryan and Mumps made every drive a thrill. Ryan was a knowledgeable, calm and engaging ranger who made each outing feel like discovering something with an old friend. Mumps, the tracker, read subtle signs in the bush that I wouldn’t have noticed, leading us to sightings like a leopard resting in a tree at golden hour and lions moving at dusk. Their teamwork, enthusiasm and respect for the animals were remarkable. Royal Malewane itself is elegant and serene, blending beautifully into the landscape. The cuisine could rival top restaurants, and the staff offered warm, personal, intuitive service. From our arrival it felt like a world of luxury hospitality in the African wilderness, deep in the Greater Kruger National Park. If you’re after a safari where conservation, comfort and unforgettable wildlife encounters come together, it’s a crown jewel. A once-in-a-lifetime trip, and I’d give it more than five stars if I could. Go with Ryan and Mumps if you can, and you’re in for magic.

We saw the Big 5 and plenty more across three days of wonderful nature drives with Andi and Jeffrey. The food, service and room at Royal Malewane Waterside Lodge were impeccable during our stay from 15 October to 17 October 2023. What stood out most was how the staff treated us like family. We had a wonderful time and would return without hesitation.
