The marina views were beautiful, and it was fun watching the seagulls and other residents swimming, fishing and boating. The upstairs apartment was comfortable, well positioned and close to the beach, with good facilities. There was no fan. We couldn’t use the communal braai every day because others were having a party, which felt awkward. We had to ask for braai tongs, but apart from that, it was comfortable.

Marina Martinique is a distinctive, beautifully kept place to live in AstonBay, and the estate is run by an effective management team. It’s an upmarket, enclosed community with 24-hour security and a seven-kilometre waterway with pontoons, great for sundowners. There are independent property owners, rental and ownership options, and holiday rentals too. It seems ideal for retirement, with a well established multicultural community and a close neighborhood, including Sunday Church. Children still play outside safely, and there’s a playground, restaurant, conference centre and saltwater canal. Adults can fish and boat. The security supervisors and managers are highly qualified professionals who care about residents’ wellbeing, and there’s also a very professional neighborhood watch. Ducks, rabbits, owls and other natural beauty add to the setting.
