Melrose Place Boutique Hotel

I spent two weeks at Melrose place while visiting my mom in South Africa, and it felt like a home away from home rather than a hotel. The owner and staff went out of their way to help from the moment I arrived. Since it was winter, my room had a gas heater and an electric blanket. Breakfast was another big bonus: muffins, eggs, yogurt, fruit and a range of drinks. I also felt very secure, with an electric fence around the property and helpful security guards there 24/7. Sue is the heart of this lodge. When I arrived, she poured me a glass of wine and we had a lovely chat, like old friends catching up. Her warmth and attention to detail showed in the food too. Lunch was roast beef and chicken with perfectly cooked butternut, spinach and potatoes, then homemade apple pie. It was divine, and you can tell she cares about making the stay memorable. The setting is a peaceful haven, surrounded by enormous old shady trees. There’s a sparkling blue pool framed by the dining hall, which is beautifully decorated with elegant furnishings. Rooms tucked into the lush gardens feel private and quaint, with luxurious interiors and fine linens. The prices are incredibly reasonable for the comfort, luxury and personal touch. A real hidden gem.

The rooms are large, with bathtubs and comfortable bedding. The interior is very nice.

Melrose felt like home during our extended stay in South Africa. We felt very safe thanks to the 24 hour security, and the service was excellent. They really go above and beyond to make you feel welcome. The rooms were clean, the gardens beautiful, and breakfast was delicious every day. I’d highly recommend staying here.
