Beach Music I and II

The amazing view and secure estate are positives, but I’m sure there are better places to book in Keurbooms. Despite the view, it isn’t a beach house as the listing implies. There’s no covered or indoor braai either, which seems odd for a “fancy” house in a part of the country that can be windy and rainy. The house is quite literally falling off the hill. The braai is so uneven it may be a safety hazard, and the rest of the house might follow. There must be structurally safer places in town. The signs around the house are awkwardly placed, slightly angry, and mostly passive aggressive. They made me feel watched by the owners, even though they were probably miles away. One warned that CCTV was operating, but I couldn’t tell where the cameras were and can only guess they may be hidden. There’s no sign telling you where to find extra toilet paper, either. I eventually found out that none is supplied for a weeklong pre-booked holiday. For managers who seem to pay so much attention, they still got our access information wrong. We had to walk back and forth to the gate several times to let in our other guests, who had already been pre-registered when we made the booking. And that seven page booking confirmation letter you’re expected to read? I won’t even get started.
