Amber Guest Lodge

At the discounted rate I paid, about R1,500 for three guests in the family room, the stay was pleasant. The breakfast was decent, the staff were generally okay, and someone made an effort with the booking, even though it was mostly done by phone. Amber Guest Lodge felt like a solid three-star place to me, though its listed rate is over R5,000 a night. At that full price, I would have been severely disappointed. We weren't greeted in person on arrival and had to check in over the phone, which felt impersonal. The furniture and décor are dated and rugged, and the service and presentation don't match a four-star or premium-priced lodge. At the discount, you may find it acceptable or even pleasant. At the listed rate, I think it would fall far short and disappoint most guests.

A big thank you to Brian, the owner, Jackie at the welcome desk, and Patience and Belinda, who keep everything running. We had an amazing stay. The rooms were always clean, breakfast was lovely, and the pool was always ready. It stayed quiet even with every room occupied. The aircon was amazing for menopause, lol. The place is close to the Islands and has a lovely view. Brian went out of his way to make our Valentine's Day and anniversary special. A must-stay in Knysna.

The view was amazing, and breakfast came out quickly with everything you could want. I had a lovely stay. I’d got my dates wrong, but they still managed to accommodate me, and the staff were so professional. The rooms are beautifully furnished, with thoughtful details like lights tucked among the flowers at night. I’d definitely recommend staying here.

Beautiful surroundings and a lovely atmosphere. The place is well maintained, and the service was very good. Highly recommended.
