The hikes around Portland Manor were a real highlight. Walking quietly through the Knysna forest, finding the charming church in Belvidere, then reaching the ocean views between Brenton-on-Sea and Buffelsbaai made for a rich mix of nature and history, including the area’s ties to Portland Manor and nearby Belvidere. The Manor, Hotel and grounds have a lot of history and charm, and the peaceful setting felt restorative. The landscape is breathtaking. Staff welcomed me warmly from the moment I arrived, and both dinner and breakfast were outstanding, delicious, and beautifully prepared. Portland Manor is a place to breathe, reflect, and truly rest, much more than just a getaway.

It’s a really beautiful hotel, and the service was fine. Everyone was friendly and accommodating. It’s a shame the restaurant had closed, though we still had a great meal there. The pool and sunbathing area are lovely, and getting towels was a nice touch. Some new chairs might be nice. The rooms and hotel could use some care.

A peaceful place with beautiful surroundings and rooms, lovely antiques, and a warm welcome. The service was excellent, the food was the best, and the chef was excellent. A luxurious stay, and a good place to find your soul.

The grounds and scenery are stunning, and the staff were friendly. We loved the food and relaxed by the pool watching the birds. It was our favourite stop along the garden route, and we didn’t want to leave. We even stayed the full day after checking out. I saw a review about brown water from the taps. It comes from the dam and is filtered and drinkable. The colour just isn’t completely clear, which is nothing to complain about.

There’s a fun history to learn about here, and plenty of activities for the family. The food was great, and it’s an amazing place to stay.
