There are free board games you can ask for at reception, but I’d only stay here if I were desperate or needed to be next to the airport. Bring your own food and snacks. The tuck shop is wildly overpriced, even compared with garages, and meals take forever to arrive despite making no sense at those prices. There’s also no place to put away or hang clothes. The public toilet by the canteen and tuck shop is all brown, which makes it seem like deep cleaning or bleach isn’t part of the routine. Our arrival was awkward because the rooms weren’t ready. The bathroom was the worst part: even with a window, leaving it open did nothing for ventilation, and you overheat and feel dizzy. Say a prayer before taking a shower. Cracked tiles and partly mouldy ceilings seem normal in the units. There’s a bar fridge, but no microwave, even though there’s a clear space for one. We were lucky to be with family and could heat food in another room with a microwave, the one with a double bed. Sleeping was painful too. There are no headboards, and the pillows are practically empty, so they give no support for your head or neck. A three-point plug behind one of the single beds meant we had to move the bed to charge our phones overnight. That left a gap against the wall, and the pillows kept slipping off. Bring your own twin plug, especially if you need to charge devices.

The staff are welcoming and friendly, but the manager Wynaard is a different story. He seems not to know how to handle guests or run a B&B or guest accommodation. He micromanages, has a short temper, and snaps when you ask for supplies. I think he needs hospitality courses and management skills. I also saw him wipe his mouth and sweat with a kitchen towel, which was very unhygienic. He swears, apparently assuming some guests don't understand his language.

We were moved from room 4 to room 11 after reporting that the kettle didn’t work and the aircon was faulty. Both worked in the new room, but the mattress was so thin and hard that the ground would have been softer. The price feels overrated when there’s no general standard for mattresses. We paid the same at a Road Lodge and got much better bedding, so I don’t think we’ll pay this amount here again.

It's a very functional stopover for an early flight, and I couldn't fault it, though it is a bit pricey. I felt bad asking a guy to shuttle me to the airport at 4am for a three-minute trip that cost R100. They should consider putting in a security gate through to the airport.

I missed my flight and ended up finding a gem. The container concept is a nice touch, and the place was clean, with a great meal and caring, friendly service. It also saved me a 4am drive.
