Our celebratory weekend was thrown into chaos by how our booking was handled. When we arrived, the room wasn’t ready, and we were soon told the guesthouse was overbooked with no room available. After a wait, they offered accommodation 10 kilometers away. In the end, they did give us a room, but it was a private residence used by the owners, which I found unacceptable. Several others from the wedding party faced the same problem. The whole experience showed a lack of professionalism, and I won’t return or recommend this guesthouse to anyone looking for an organized stay.

We stayed for 8 nights and would recommend the place for a night or a longer visit. The atmosphere was very relaxing, the rooms were clean, and Tjaard and his staff gave us first-class hospitality.

A great guest house in a lovely, quiet area. The staff provide excellent service, and there’s a big swimming pool, a car wash and WiFi in the yard. Highly recommend it 🔥

We paid R900.00 for one night at Aloe Tree Guest House while attending a nearby wedding. Before booking, we asked about checking in before 2 pm so we could get ready. The woman handling the booking said it might be possible, though the room could still be occupied until previous guests checked out at 10 am. We decided to get ready at home instead, so we wouldn’t interfere with cleaning. We arrived just before 3 pm and found the room in the main house still being cleaned. Toilet rolls were in the hallway, and there was an unpleasant diaper smell throughout the house. The woman asked us not to leave a 1 star rating, saying people who booked the weekend before had already given them a low rating. We were also surprised to learn we’d share the house with the owner’s son, as that hadn’t been mentioned when we booked. We accepted it, though it was a shock. There was no fan in our room. The cleaner kindly brought a small heater and fan combo when I asked, and I said it would do, even though it wasn’t ideal. When we returned after the wedding, shoes and socks were scattered by the door, another sign of sharing the house with the son. The basin had only a hot water tap, so we had to lean over the bath to brush our teeth and wash our faces with lukewarm water rather than use the sink comfortably. The power also went on and off several times overnight, and without a fan it was hard to get a breeze. At 7 am on Sunday, a small dog barked incessantly and woke us, then workers chatted loudly outside our windows. In the shower I found a used razor, wash scrunchie and body wash. The bathroom closets were secured with chains, which made me wonder if the room was regularly used by other people. I showered wearing flip-flops, which wasn’t what I expected for a R900 booking. My partner skipped the shower altogether. We again had to brush our teeth over the bath. At checkout, the woman was nowhere around, so we left the keys with the cleaner and asked them to open the main gate. Given the price and our experience, I wouldn’t recommend Aloe Tree Guest House to family or friends. It felt far too expensive for what we got, and Sunday morning wasn’t restful. I hope to hear from the owner.

Our wedding party family made memories we’ll treasure for life, and Aloe Tree Guest House comes highly recommended. Tj was a wonderful host. The grounds were pristine, with a pool and a roomy braai and entertainment area. Our bedroom and bathroom suites felt cozy and homely, and breakfast was a scrumptious buffet. A huge thank you for a memorable stay.
