A gate is all that separates you from the ocean, with the apartment right on the beach. The three-bedroom place is spacious and well furnished. Its stoep is handy for braaiing when the weather’s bad, and for whale watching when the wind is strong.

We were in No. 10, and it was beautiful. The outside of the building could use a paint job, but everything else was cool.

There wasn’t enough bedding for us, and the TV didn’t work. No staff were around the hotel. When we arrived late, I called the manager for the keys and got attitude. Nobody showed us our room, so we had to try each door until we found it. When we called her again, she was rude and said she doesn’t work on weekends.
