The beach is within walking distance, and the sea view is lovely. There’s a pool and a Jacuzzi, though the water was cold. The place is run by a Romanian couple who checked in with friendly questions now and then. I liked the setup, and most things, including the bedding and linen, were clean. Breakfast felt quite fancy, though some of us just prefer white bread. The dining hall was the letdown: it didn’t match the rest of the place, and there were ants. With so much wind, dust and dirt can blow around, too. Aside from the dining hall, we had a great stay.

You can hear the waves from your room, and the beach is close by. It’s a quiet, safe place with friendly people and warm, welcoming staff. The food was top quality, and the room felt like home. You get what you pay for here, and I thought it was worth the price.

The parking was a real challenge. A bigger SUV wouldn’t have fitted, and the layout was so awkward that I couldn’t leave my wife and daughter behind to go deep-sea fishing, since my wife wouldn’t have been able to get the bakkie out. Danny was understanding and empathetic at first about my needs and booking changes. We arrived after 10 pm in the rain, and he came out to greet us, which I appreciated. He also helped get the outdated air conditioner running late that night. There was no milk in the room, so expect black tea, coffee or hot chocolate. Breakfast is scheduled for 9, though he served us a little earlier. Around 8:30, we tried to feed our two kids at the lappa and were asked to give him time to prepare the place for 9. I apologized, but his sarcastic “thank you very much” made the exchange uncomfortable. Checkout is at 10, so there’s only an hour to feed everyone and get ready. Leaving was unpleasant too. We watched his wife check the linen for stains and count the towels and remote controls. My family and I have stayed at many B&Bs where the owners live on site, but here we found it hard to connect. We tried making conversation and still felt unwelcome. I expected basic courtesy and politeness, and left disappointed. If you’re not passionate about hospitality and guest service, you shouldn’t run a B&B.

A quiet, cosy place for a getaway. We had a fantastic weekend and were welcomed warmly by a wonderful host.

Good value, with a heated pool and jacuzzi. The views are great too.
