Olifants River Lodge

The setting is beautiful and worth being called "God’s Valley". The indoor pools are a big hit with our family, one cold and one warm, and the kids can safely keep themselves occupied. There's plenty else to do too, including put put, electric scooter hire, fishing rod hire, pool tables, and table tennis. The establishment needs maintenance, but it's still one of our family's favorite holiday venues. I hope we get to visit many more times.

The restaurant food was enjoyable, reasonably priced, and the waiters and waitress were friendly and welcoming. We also got a very polite reception when we arrived, thank you to the lady whose name I forgot. It’s a quiet, relaxed, kid-friendly place, and the river running through it was my favorite part. My concerns were the ants in the rooms, which I think could be treated, and a noise early one morning that woke us up. Most guests are there to rest, so that wasn’t great.

I really love the location and the place itself. The campsites are lovely and clearly well looked after, and the staff made us feel at home. Precious at the restaurant was especially friendly, and Nelly the cleaner was so nice. We even had a great chat while she cleaned the bathroom.

The outdoor pools, slides, and children’s play area are great, and the location and view are beautiful. The indoor pool was only warm near the top, though; the middle was cold, and the floor and sides were flaking. I’d like to see an outdoor heated pool too. The ablutions need attention: there’s little lighting, shower drains are clogged and water backs up, and there’s no soap for handwashing. The grass should have been cut well before Christmas, rather than just before it and forcing campers to move their things. Areas could be cut after campers leave. Rules also need better management and enforcement. On Christmas Day, some guests ignored them, including rules around very revealing swimwear. We couldn’t use the indoor pool or enjoy the outdoor activities, and management didn’t address the behavior. I’d visit again if these issues were dealt with and improved.
