We couldn’t get any sleep during our stay because other guests were shouting and making noise all night. The hotel’s location didn’t make up for the poor soundproofing and lack of guest management. It was very disappointing.

Leilani was a wonderful hostess and manager, full of useful information and advice. The old schoolhouse is beautiful, rich in history, and very quiet. Thank you.

Don’t go. We paid 1000 rand for one night and it was a complete rip-off. There was nowhere clean to go, and the bathrooms, kitchen, and rooms were unsanitary. The showers were dirty, the doors were broken, and the rooms didn’t feel secure. It felt like being in a jungle. There was nowhere to sit, alcohol was unsupervised, and people were already complaining as soon as they came into reception. The blankets weren’t clean, the pillows were brown, there was blood on the wall, and there were unknown things on the bedding. The so-called swimming pool was really just a koi pond. If you’re used to your home or a hotel being reasonably clean and sanitary, this place will be way outside your comfort zone. Book somewhere lovely on the coast instead, but not Parkhouse Lodge. I was really disappointed, and the owner doesn’t even seem to keep track of the place.

The room was mouldy and uncomfortable, and we were awake for most of the night. It had a musty smell, there was no ventilation in the room or bathroom, and the hot, humid weather and mosquitoes made it hard to sleep with the windows open. The bathroom fan was disgustingly dirty and very loud, but didn’t help at all. There was black mould on the shower walls, spider droppings on the toilet seat, and the towels smelled mouldy and didn’t seem clean. The old bedding and curtains were stained too. We arrived on a rainy, humid Friday evening, tired from the long drive from Cape Town. A friendly young German girl met us and gave us the Wi-Fi password, but the internet never worked during our two-day stay. We were told the bad weather was to blame. The next morning, we found out there was no filter coffee, and a sign in the really dirty, old kitchen said we had to wash our own dishes. I understand it’s almost like a backpackers, but this was the worst accommodation experience I’ve had. Mosselbay was named town of the year for 2017, but this place doesn’t fit with the rest of the stunning town. I wouldn’t recommend Park Lodge House to anyone. I hope the owners realise how dirty it is and do something about it. Regards, Tania.

We were warmly welcomed by a friendly, helpful host, and everything we needed was taken care of. The garden was peaceful, our dogs felt right at home, and we all slept well.
