Elgin Guest House

I booked online at short notice because of an MTB event and had a good stay. The room was clean, with a heater, heated blanket, and a hot shower, though the water pressure was low. There was no shower gel or shampoo, just lotion, which I guess they forgot to provide. For what I paid for two nights, room service felt very basic: they made the bed and cleaned the bathroom, but didn’t empty the bin, replace used tea cups, or replenish the delicious biscuits. Breakfast was basic but good, and there was secure parking for my motorbike. The little things I mentioned could be improved.

The farm and river hike was a good workout, with some stunning photo spots along the way. Back at the guesthouse, the room was exceptionally clean and well equipped, including a microwave in the kitchenette, and made a restful break from busy city life. The place is neat and superbly run, with friendly staff keeping everything in great shape. Lindiwe and TK made us feel relaxed and welcome. A peaceful getaway.

We had cozy, warm beds and all the comforts we needed, plus lovely food available by arrangement. The Guesthouse has a beautiful setting and a wonderful atmosphere. Lindiwe welcomed us graciously when we arrived late in the afternoon after our booking at another venue fell through, and the owner Janine was kind and helpful with our last-minute request. If you’re in Underberg looking for a place to stay, wander no more 😉

We found the unit tranquil and relaxing, and Lexi made an excellent breakfast every morning. The B+B is on a working dairy farm, with fantastic views across green fields down to a dam and mountains on the horizon. The dirt road is short and in very good condition, so a normal sedan should be fine. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend a quiet, luxurious night in the country here.
