The resident ostriches kept us entertained and gave the stay a lovely Karoo feel. We were there for the annual KKNK, and having a wonderfully cozy bed was just what we needed after long days at the festival. The bathroom was spacious and a highlight. The hostess made us feel very welcome, and the staff were friendly and helpful the whole time. Breakfast was a generous buffet with plenty of choice, a great start to busy days. The living room setup was a bit odd, with only two armrest chairs, so it wasn’t the best place to relax. Still, we had a warm, comfortable stay with lovely hospitality and some charming quirks.

We loved it. The rooms were big, cozy, and the nicest, and the staff were wonderful, from the porter who met us and helped with our bags. I’d highly recommend this place to anyone.

The interior design was out of this world, and the beds were very comfortable. The place is privately owned, with exceptional service from the owner and her staff. Reception was great, the food was great, and the staff were very friendly. It’s off the beaten track and offers real privacy. I only wish I’d stayed one more day.

A staff member came into my room just after 10pm to turn off the air-con because they thought I was out. I was asleep and got the fright of my life. My door was locked, and the key was inside the door, so I assume staff have a master key. I needed a good night’s sleep before an early drive, but didn’t get one. The accommodation is beautiful, but this breach of privacy is unacceptable.

The ostriches on the farm were so cute, and the malva pudding at dinner was delicious. Breakfast was amazing too, with an impressive choice of food. Cathy and her team at Bakenskraal in Oudtshoorn were attentive and helpful, always looking after our needs with a smile. Oom Dirkie deserves a special mention for going above and beyond to make the stay comfortable and enjoyable. I’m grateful for his kindness and dedication.
