Betty and Bob were so kind and hospitable. I got there around lunchtime and they offered to make me a ham and cheese toastie, which was great. Breakfast was good too. The main building and grounds are beautiful, and my one-bedroom suite was spacious with parking right in front. It rained, so I couldn’t fully enjoy everything the place has to offer. There’s a petrol station across the road and it was a bit noisy, though it didn’t bother me.

The staff were friendly, but I’d never go back unless the facilities are upgraded. The bed was awful, and bed bugs and dust mites had me itching all night. At midnight I was thinking I’d be better off sleeping in the car. The bathroom was so dirty that after showering I felt I had to sanitize my hands and feet. Right now the place is a demolition site and should not be open for business.

Betty and Bob are exceptionally kind and hospitable, and we were in a room within five minutes of arriving without a reservation at 6 p.m. The spacious room was clean and cozy, breakfast was delicious, and this made an ideal stop on our trip from Kruger to St Lucia. It’s perfect for a brief stay, although the surrounding neighborhood is underdeveloped and not especially inviting, with little in the way of attractions. A great quick stop.

On our second visit, the service from every staff member was excellent again. The room was fantastic, the atmosphere felt homely, and the food was five-star. The conference catering was excellent too, and my course attendees loved the place, the food and the atmosphere. I first used their conference facilities at very short notice for three days because of the generator capacity. Piet Retief was dealing with four-hour load-shedding slots almost three times a day. The owner and staff were upbeat, accommodating and excellent in their service. I’ll definitely visit again. This place deserves five stars.

Bob and Betty, the owners, along with the staff, food and service were all great. I loved being here each day, especially sitting by the pool in the mornings after breakfast and enjoying the tidy, beautiful gardens. Welgekozen is a little gem amid all the despair, and I highly recommend it for a short, long or overnight stay. You’d miss out on a little piece of paradise if you didn’t come.
