It felt like being at home while away. I’ve stayed in plenty of places in SA and abroad, and this was one of the best. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and Gys and Denzel had thought through the little things. Ever struggled to open a coffee packet? They leave small scissors to make it easy. Breakfast was amazing and ready on time. Lovely stay.

Our squash group stayed for four nights, and Gys made room for us. He really cares about guests and whether they’re happy. We were well placed for the facilities, and security was good all around. The breakfasts were delicious and filling. The rooms were super clean, with lots of interesting antique pieces. We also enjoyed the well-kept, cheerful garden and the lovely fresh pool. The two four-legged friends were always there to welcome us “home”.

We’ve stayed in some of the best guesthouses here. The bedroom and bathroom were super, with all the little details taken care of. Breakfast was great, and the hosts were wonderful.

A memorable, warm place for my business trip, and surely one of the finest places to stay in Pietermaritzburg. The owner Gys was kind enough to tell me about local customs and history. The artefacts on the walls share a lot about the area, and the surroundings are inspiring for remote work. The whole place feels like a time capsule and a fitting tribute to PMB’s architectural gem. They also serve a fine breakfast, and can make it vegetarian or vegan if you ask.
