Marlot Guest House

The bathroom pipes had a strong smell, maybe from lack of use or maintenance, and I hope they sort that out for future guests. Seeing sheets hung in the parking lot was interesting, too. The pool and rooms were clean, the area was quiet, and the guest house had everything I needed. The staff were very friendly and welcoming, though.

At 2am, people were banging on our door, slamming the metal gate, and shouting in the courtyard. The security guard was sitting there but did nothing to quiet them. I know drunk guests aren’t the establishment’s fault, but the guard could have stepped in. The beds were also awful, soft like marshmallows with a huge dip in the middle, and badly in need of replacement. We had specifically booked a room with two beds, and the manager confirmed that in writing. On arrival, we were given a room with just one. The receptionist couldn’t or wouldn’t fix it, and another guest kindly offered to swap rooms. With plenty of other choices in Polokwane, I don’t understand how Marlot gets repeat guests.

The rooms have plenty of space for a couple and a kid or two, which I appreciate. It’s also a good spot for business events or presentations, and the food is fairly good. Pretty solid guest house, I’d recommend staying here.

Our company paid in full up front for two rooms with breakfast for two technicians. We’d been assured there was enough space, but when they arrived, they were moved to a neighboring lodge because Marlot was suddenly fully booked. The man on duty said he knew nothing and gave me the manager’s number, but the manager didn’t answer. A full advance payment still didn’t guarantee a room. Highly unprofessional, I wouldn’t recommend it.
