Umtamvuna River Lodge

The boat ride was a lovely way to celebrate our daughter’s birthday. We had an awesome experience, from the very friendly receptionist to the exceptional owner. Thank you!

At dinner, strangers wandered in and helped themselves to our drinks. Earlier, during our vows, the owner had led groups through the venue to show them the facilities, then took more people on a boat ride. The bar staff we’d paid extra for never arrived, so partway through the evening we had to switch to self-service. Tables for welcome drinks, the cake, and other items only came out less than an hour before guests started arriving. We’d been assured the venue was for our private use, but on the wedding day the owner invited his friends to wakeboard in the same area where the groomsmen were meant to get ready. We’d provided all the guest details for access, yet the gates didn’t work and nobody was there to help. Covid disrupted our original wedding plans, and rescheduling turned into a nightmare. There were heated arguments about choosing a new date and whether we could keep the discount we’d received for paying everything upfront months in advance. In the end, we paid a lot more. The location is stunning, though the facilities need some maintenance. Management was awful. Be careful dealing with the owner: they promised everything and didn’t deliver. They were helpful until we paid, then we were on our own. I wish we’d known the truth from the start.

Kevin was such a blessing to our children, and everyone in our group was treated with kindness and respect. The staff were friendly, the views were amazing, and the pizzas were fantastic. This place is a hidden gem, and I’d love to bring my family back as often as we can. Thank you so much.

The Umtamvuna family were delightful, and the staff were so accommodating. They even let us check in early and leave later. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and the place is absolutely mind-blowing. We’ve honestly had a wonderful time at one of our best holiday destinations, and we’d definitely visit again. Highly recommended!
