Acorn Lodge & SKYDECK

The room was only okay, and we couldn’t get a decent night’s sleep because the beds were shockingly uncomfortable. The shower curtain was much too short, so the bathroom floor flooded whenever we washed up. Breakfast was the worst part. We’d requested 8:00 AM, but when we arrived on time, we were told the chef had overslept and nothing was ready. When food eventually came, the fried eggs and chicken sandwich were cold, and the chicken nuggets looked like leftovers from someone else’s lunch. It was a complete letdown and not worth what we paid. That was a shame, since the location near local attractions and amenities was fantastic, and the welcoming, easygoing staff and attractive exterior had given us high hopes.

The service was awesome and the people were so friendly. I enjoyed sleeping there, and reliable WiFi made it easy to get my work done. I also had a nice experience at Sky roof pub, and I’m coming back.

I’ve stayed at Acorn lodge seven times. The beds and sheets are superb, and the service is nice. Rooms go for R400 to R600 a night, from 18:00pm check-in until 10:00am check-out, so it’s very affordable. The SKYDECK EXPERIENCE, a rooftop with a bar, is another nice feature. You can see what I mean in my pictures. My complaints are that the water is sometimes cold and there’s no aircon in the rooms. I visited Potchesftroom in winter and it was very cold, so an aircon would have helped. Other than that, Acorn lodge is a good place to stay.

The location is good, and the breakfast was nice, but that came after a horrible night. Hot water needs to be available in the morning, and the bed should be more comfortable. The room also needs a better smell, or a room spray. It would help to add DSTV for more channels and, when guests arrive, welcome them better and show them to their room. They should also explain the basics, like the switches, gates, parking, main door, and lights.
