Good value for money, with a clean, distinctive layout that could suit various niche markets. The customer service needs attention. A paying customer who is behaving appropriately shouldn’t be spoken to disrespectfully because of external factors that haven’t been brought to light.
Rob's Place Guesthouse was lovely and peaceful, thanks to where it’s located. I had everything I needed to cook for myself in the kitchenette, and the braai amenities made for a nice evening braai. The staff did their utmost to help quickly whenever I needed something and went above and beyond to make my stay pleasant. I’ll definitely return, and strongly recommend it to anyone looking for a cozy place to stay.
I would never stay here again. Room 12 smelled musty and like someone had smoked in it as soon as we entered. I booked a self-catering unit based on the website photos, but there was only a microwave, no place to wash cutlery, and no self-catering setup. They told me to use the main kitchen, which was a walk away, and carry everything there. There was one chair even though the room sleeps three. I don’t trust the website, and there are no self-catering rooms or B+B. The cold water wasn’t working at the bathroom basin or bath. They fixed the basin after I complained and said they’d return the next day for the bath, but after three days it still wasn’t fixed. I also had to pay R25.00 per day for the air conditioner remote, with no refund. The TV remote didn’t match the TV. The cleaning lady didn’t even try to fix the curtain rail or curtain. We had visitors in the ceiling during the night.
The room really isn’t suitable for business travel. When load shedding starts, it gets pitch dark, with no alternative lighting in the room. There was no air-conditioning remote in the room either. You have to request one, and it costs an extra R25 per night to use the air conditioning. The staff were friendly and tried to help where they could.
We were booked for three nights, but it seemed only the payment person and the system knew that. One morning a cleaner unlocked our door, then locked it again when she saw us inside. No knock, no apology, nothing. I can't really blame her if nobody told her, but it made us feel forgotten. There was no proper welcome, and no Wi-Fi either. This place is basically for sleeping and leaving. Hai, never again!
