I wish the owner had cancelled before we arrived so we could have made other plans. We’d booked two weeks ahead, and on the day I called to confirm our arrival time, she explained that her mother had died and family would be using the place while she handled the funeral. I was already in Pretoria after travelling from Durban and had nowhere else to go, so she said we could still come. We waited outside for over an hour, calling with no answer and unable to get in. Booking.com’s service center, where we’d booked, eventually sorted it out. We left after one night instead of the three booked, because we felt uncomfortable, and found somewhere else for the following night.

The host, as she always says, “oh my word,” is just wonderful. She even took my one-year-old to the mall. I’m really enjoying the stay, and the warm welcome means a lot. Thank you, Ma'am. This is Mr Ladysmith, since you couldn't pronounce my name.

That was my second visit and the second bad experience, so I won't stay here again or recommend the place. On both visits, they didn't have the room I'd reserved on Booking. The first time, they gave me one of the owner's rooms. This time there was a room available, but it was unfinished, with a raw floor and no paint, and the bed was out in the hallway. They expected me to sleep there. I said there was no way, and they gave me an owner's bedroom again.

It already feels like home, and the owner is really friendly. If there were TVs in the rooms and you could choose between a room with a bathtub or one with a shower, it would be perfect.
