The staff were friendly and ready to help, and it was easy to get to transport, shops and other nearby facilities. Birchway Backpackers was clean, safe and well looked after, with a laid-back, welcoming feel. The rooms were comfortable, and the common spaces worked well for relaxing or meeting people. It was good value and peaceful, and I’d recommend it to anyone looking for affordable, comfortable accommodation. I’d be glad to stay again.

The pool was nice, and the staff did what they could to help. The bunk rooms, though, were dusty, and the mattresses were in poor condition. The linen was clean, but there were no fans in the rooms, or any available to bring in, so they felt stuffy. Spiders were everywhere, and there was no Doom to spray the dusty corners. A lot of the shared showers had visible mould and no towel racks or soap dishes, and there wasn’t any ventilation. Some shower doors wouldn’t lock, which isn’t ideal in a shared bathroom.

Birchway is a clean, quiet and pleasant place to stay. It feels welcoming, it’s easy to find your way around, and the staff are fun to spend time with. Thanks, Birchway, for the experience :)

A basic, low-budget place to sleep, nothing fancy. The room was clean and did the job for one night. It’s close to the N4 and N1 exits, which was really convenient.

The rooms smelled really bad, and the staff were rude. At one point they were braiding each other’s hair by the braai area while we were trying to have our braai.
