Gabbata Lodge

This was our third visit, but today’s Mother’s Day lunch was such a disappointment. The advertised buffet menu was nowhere to be found, and there was no roast, just lamb bones in curry. The waffle tasted as if it had been baked last week. The ox tongue was nice.

Yesterday we held a 21st birthday celebration at Gabbata Lodge for my girlfriend and her twin sisters. The whole experience was amazing. Everyone was friendly and keen to help, and JP van der Meulen, the events manager, was a star. He was handling four events in one day, but gave ours such careful attention that I felt like it was the only one happening. He goes above and beyond for his clients. JP had been helping us since my first enquiry, and whenever I texted, whether at 6am or 9pm, he always replied kindly. The way everything was handled made it feel like we’d gotten a 50% discount. “Value for money” doesn’t even cover it. Gabbata Lodge is a best kept secret, but if you’re wondering whether to take a chance, this is your sign. As I told JP, they haven’t seen the last of me. Thank you, Gabbata ❤️

The lamb was the highlight for us, tender, full of flavour and cooked beautifully. We came back to Gabbata Lodge for our second Christmas lunch, and the buffet had plenty of well-organised choices. It felt relaxed and festive, and the staff were friendly and attentive the whole time.

Gabbata is named after a tree species found in the Garden of Getsemené, where Jesus prayed before HIS crucifixion. The grounds are peaceful and luxurious, with a chance you might spot an Impala, Njala, Blesbuck or Wildebees. With peaceful luxury accommodation, good food and friendly service, it should help you start 2026 in a relaxed way. Our Vintage Club of Doxa Deo, Faerie Glen held its year-end function at Gabbata Lodge at Leeuwfontein, Pretoria. There were 46 of us, and we were treated like royalty 👑. The food was absolutely delicious, the staff were friendly and quick, and the tables looked festive and luxurious. Werner, JP and Delarey kept everything running smoothly. Security at the entrance helped us feel safe, and the parking area was huge, shaded by beautiful trees.
