I’m disgusted by how inconvenient and frustrating this has been. We were first put in room 628, where the air conditioning couldn’t provide heat even though Pretoria was cold, at 15 degrees Celsius. We reported it to management, and maintenance came by but then disappeared. Later we were asked to move to room 432 because its aircon worked. We packed up and moved, and it was fine for the night. When we returned today, the same problem had started again in a different room. I reported it, maintenance came, looked at it and said it was Daekin’s issue and had been reported. The only alternative I was offered was a cooling fan. I’m now waiting for the manager to offer a proper solution, and considering going to Menlyn mall to buy a portable heater. They’ve offered us a third room in two days. It’s bizarre, and there’s not much “Menlyn Maine Luxury” about it. Avoid this if you don’t want major inconvenience, confrontation and frustration. Management, please don’t send me a press release saying “thank you for your review” and that you’re trying to make things better, blah blah blah.

The apartments were beautiful, spacious and definitely felt luxurious, worth the money. It’s a cozy and comfortable spot close to all the fun places. We were a big group, though, and got split across different floors. That was tricky because your room key only gives you access to your own floor and the parking.

It was clean, and the self-catering setup had enough crockery and cutlery for our stay. The location is hard to beat for shops and Sunbet Arena. Still, I wouldn’t call it luxury. The air conditioning didn’t work, and the queen bed moved whenever either of us did. The locked interleading door wasn’t soundproof, so we heard the neighbours cackling after their night out until 4am. There was only one towel hook in the bathroom, and no euro plugs in the room, just one in the kitchen. The advertised Netflix is only the app, so you need your own account, just like with the specified DStv streaming. I’d expect bath sheets at a luxury place, but the towels were standard and could’ve been fluffier. Worst of all, the toilet had no door and was fully visible from the bed and balcony. Travel with someone you’re VERY intimate with. We got married a few months ago and still aren’t comfortable with that, and I hope we never are. It’s like the Donald Trump of hotels, just call it luxury and apparently that makes it so.

Minus ten, if that were possible. I booked a room, then called to confirm and change my check-in date. They told me they couldn’t find the booking. I emailed and called, and even showed proof of payment from my bank, but got no refund at all, not even 1%. They didn’t investigate. They took my money and never gave me a room. There’s no zero or minus rating available, unfortunately.

The apartment itself was neat, comfortable and really nice. But on checkout, I asked to leave my luggage at reception because I wasn’t leaving until 8 pm and wanted to see Pretoria first. The landlady and receptionist both said they couldn’t help, so I ended up sitting in a restaurant with my bag until 5 pm. That made me feel unwelcome, and I couldn’t help wondering if discrimination played a part.
