The food was a real highlight, especially breakfast, with a great range, smoothies, cappuccinos and an omelette that was the best in town. The pool and outdoor seating area were lovely too. I’ve stayed around Joburg and Menlyn quite a bit, and this hotel has surpassed what I expected. It’s modern and stylish but still comfortable, and the staff were friendly and checked that everything was okay. They even put out complimentary sweets for a festive celebration. I had an amazing stay, 10/10. More TV channels would be nice, but I can’t think of anything else negative.

Thanks to everyone at Protea Hotel Menlyn for helping make our engagement such a beautiful memory. My girlfriend is now my fiancée, and we’ll always remember the day we celebrated there. On the 26th of this month, the team supported me from start to finish with my surprise plans. Bongile deserves a special thank you for patiently helping with every request and paying such close attention to the details. The chefs also made an incredible meal, and the “Will you marry me?” plate looked stunning and made the moment feel extra special. We felt cared for and welcomed throughout. Protea Hotel Menlyn will always be a special place for us to return to for celebrations and good meals. I’d highly recommend the team for a special occasion.

Tshepo took good care of us, brought bread, and listened to our constructive feedback. The start of the meal was more awkward: Dineplan only showed a buffet when we wanted à la carte, though we managed to call and reserve a restaurant table. Our first server gave us menus and stood by for our order. I asked for still water, but he brought sparkling and said it was complimentary, adding that he could fetch still if we wanted. He left the bottle in the middle of the table, so I had to pour it ourselves. When I asked whether they serve table bread, he said it was for hotel guests. I started with an Americano, then another waiter took over. The establishment feels like a 4-star place, but staff training needs attention, the service isn't up to standard, and there was no management presence.

A nice setting for a birthday, bridal or baby shower. You can choose the menu or have the buffet, which is R350 pp and includes salads, mains, dessert and finger foods. Buffet service runs from 12:30 to 3pm.

The room lighting could be brighter, especially in the bathroom, but I still had a fantastic weekend and would recommend this venue anytime. It’s clean, very safe, and close to the shopping mall and entertainment at [Tyme Square]. The staff were friendly, attentive and well trained. I was really impressed and enjoyed the stay. Thanks for a great weekend.
