Sable Hills Lodge

Roodeplaat dam was a great place to get away from the city and unwind in peace. The rooms had what I needed, and the beds were easily the best I’ve slept in anywhere. There was one small issue, but the staff sorted it as soon as I let them know. I had an amazing time at Sable Hills and will definitely come back.

The rooms are well equipped, and the atmosphere is lovely for families. Set in the Sable Hills wildlife estate, the accommodation feels beautiful and safe. The staff are friendly and very helpful.

A very peaceful spot by the water, with a good breakfast included. It’s a great place to rest and get a break from the city. Highly recommended.

When we arrived, our Blue crane room smelled awful. We reported it, and the manager said she’d send someone. She came with the cleaning lady and a can of furniture polish. The cleaner said she knew about the smell and had left the windows open, but it lingered. She thought, and we agreed, that the room needed repainting. She also said an old lady had stayed there for a long time and the smell had started after she left. The manager said they were fully booked and couldn't move us. We were tired, so my husband suggested we try to put up with it for one night. When we opened the bed, the mattress was soaked with pee and was the source of the smell. The linen was dirty too. We checked the other room, and its mattresses were the same. The next morning my husband showed the manager photos of the dirty mattresses. She said she’d replace them and put on fresh linen. We went out for the day, but they had only swapped the dirty mattresses between rooms. I messaged her to say that wasn't acceptable and asked to speak with the owner. She said he'd come check the next day, Sunday, but he never came to the room or spoke with us, even though he was there. On earlier visits we’d had aircon problems. The owner partly refunded us once, and the previous manager moved us to another room straight away the second time. My husband posted a review, and this manager is lying to protect herself. Please check the mattresses before moving in. We also found cockroaches all over, even in the fridge and beds. I've attached some pictures and can send more, along with videos, if needed.
