Twin Waters Guest House

There was no welcome or check in, and we had to phone the owner to find our room. We'd been pressured to pay in full beforehand, so surely they knew we were expected. In four days, I saw nobody from the owner or management, just one other guest. There was no DStv, breakfast, tea or coffee in the room, or toiletries pack, though we'd paid for it in advance. The room did have a kettle, fridge, and microwave. I wouldn't recommend staying here or return. It was a horrible experience for my mom.

The Garden Room was clean, nicely decorated, and great for sleeping in. Outside, though, it was uncomfortable to spend time. The hammocks, smoking area, and sun beds were dirty, and the property looked like it hadn't been maintained in a while. The place was nothing like the pictures, which left me very disappointed.

Twin waters is a nice home on a big property right by the river. I stayed from 5 Jan to 18, and honestly, it was the nicest and cheapest place to stay in Joburg. Stephan treated me like a friend, which other B&B owners don't do. When I got confused about whether I was leaving on 18 or 17 Jan, he helped me find another B&B in Bryanston for one night. He doesn't worry about competition and gives me lots of advice about renting people's cottages. One suggestion for next time: a card machine would be safer for me than carrying cash, since I'm still young and learning how to make a deposit.

The reception was very hostile. We were told to go find cash at night to pay because they apparently don't have card facilities and don't accept EFT payments, which I found very strange. We were checking out two days later, yet as women we had to drive around at night looking for an ATM. I'll never go back.
