Gecko Inn Guest House

A special memory for me at Gecko Inn is playing pool with my dad, just the two of us. It made me feel this is more than a venue, it’s somewhere memories happen. The place has a stylish, welcoming layout, with a pool and bar area and a fun space for kids. Live music and big screens for sports add to the atmosphere, and the staff are lovely. Zama was my waitress and made us feel welcome with her polite manner. I really enjoy coming here, and think it’s one of the best spots in Richards Bay. On 10 May 2026, we came to Geckoo Inn for Mother’s Day. Mum and Grandma had a lovely afternoon outside in the sunshine, and the visit felt especially meaningful for them. The food was so fresh. I had the salmon salad, one of the best I’ve ever eaten. Ayanda looked after us throughout, friendly, attentive, and helpful.

The hostess who served us was amazing and deserved her tip, especially since waiting tables wasn’t really her job. The wait wasn’t terrible either, and the staff helped make it easier. After the new upgrade, the place looks amazing and we had a memorable visit. I’d return. The security left a bad impression, though. At the entrance they were rude and informal, told us to wait away from them, and made comments as one of us walked past. On the way out they kept pestering us to leave faster, with a rude, sarcastic attitude. They even watched us in the bathroom when my partner needed to use it before we left. I’d suggest avoiding interactions with security. Everything else was good.

The restaurant serves great food, and there’s a breakfast buffet. I also enjoyed the good coffee and cake on a slow afternoon. It’s a lovely guesthouse for either a holiday or a business trip, with friendly, professional service.

We stopped in for birthday dessert, and the food was tasty and well priced. The waiters were friendly and efficient. The outdoor dining area looks stunning, with heaters for cold evenings and big screens for sports fans. There’s plenty of seating indoors and out, plus a large tent over the outdoor tables. A big electric fence secures the property. The children’s play area was being built when we visited and looks like it’ll be great. The downside was the number of people smoking around us, which was hard as non-smokers.
