Fairlawns Boutique Hotel and Spa

The lack of follow-up after I raised concerns during my visit says a lot. This was my third disappointing visit, and I can’t recommend the spa. In December 2021, I went with my mother and had several service problems, including a two-hour wait for lunch. I emailed a detailed complaint and was told things would be addressed. When I returned in 2024 for a friend’s 40th birthday, I’d emailed ahead about that complaint, but lunch was delayed again. Then in December 2025, I booked a year-end spa day for my assistant, and the same sort of problems were still there. We were put indoors without anyone asking what we preferred. The treatments were average, staff didn’t explain the products, and they didn’t properly remove the facial masks. Lunch was nearly an hour late, wrong, and just like the earlier failures. It took repeated requests before we could speak with a manager, and when she finally came, she seemed more focused on the lunch order. During the long delays, there were no warm drinks available in the garden area, even in stormy weather. They were only available at reception. Another guest in the changing room was visibly upset and said she wouldn’t come back. I cancelled the rest of the treatments and ended up taking my assistant to a mall salon instead. At checkout, the experience fell far short of the refined day we’d expected. More than a month later, the spa sent a note saying it had done an internal investigation. They said one staff member passed a polygraph and another showed possible signs of deception. Those findings were inconclusive, and nothing meaningful was done to put things right. We tried several times to reach senior management and asked to speak with ownership, but got no reply.

At checkout, management apologized, but didn’t offer a clear solution. More than a month later, we got a written message saying an internal investigation had been done. We were told one staff member passed a polygraph, while another showed signs of possible deception. The results were inconclusive, yet there was no meaningful attempt to resolve what happened. We repeatedly tried to contact senior management and asked to speak with the owners, but heard nothing back. Our family had arrived at Fairlawns Boutique Hotel & Spa excited for a stay with our children. The property is beautiful and charming, and the staff seemed warm and helpful at first. After a long day of travel, we left the room with what we thought was the “Do Not Disturb” sign on the door. There were two tags in the room, one blank and one saying “Please Make Up Room.” We used the blank one, thinking it meant privacy. Only later did we learn that a separate “Do Not Disturb” tag was supposed to be provided, but hadn’t been. Housekeeping came in for turn-down service while we were away. After that, we found items missing. We never expected to feel unsafe or violated at a hotel of this standing, and it was deeply upsetting for our family. The building may be visually enchanting, but we were left disappointed and unsettled. Given what happened and the lack of resolution, I can’t recommend this hotel.

Breakfast was a highlight, especially the shakshuka, which I’d highly recommend. The rooms were beautiful, the food was amazing, and the staff were exceptional. With the pool and the whole atmosphere, the accommodation felt five-star throughout.

The restaurant was wonderful, and both the food and mocktails I tried were delicious. The spa itself is breathtaking, and the staff there were professional and friendly. I had a great visit and would happily recommend it. I’ll definitely be back.
