Weom Apartments

We rented a two-bedroom apartment at Weom Apartments in Sandton. I travel often for work and understand that different hotels have different procedures, but I’ve never experienced anything like this. My three friends and I had two other friends over for dinner. Our conversation got lively, and security asked us once to be quieter. We agreed and moved from the balcony into the bedroom so our voices wouldn’t carry. A while later, the lights went out. When two of us went to ask what had happened, an angry guard was at our door. He said we were still noisy and that he had switched them off. He told us to call the manager to restore them. The manager said the problem was apparently our voices, not the TV or music. We explained that we had two guests for dinner and offered to have them leave. She agreed and said the lights would come back on. They were still off about 20 minutes later, so a friend and I went downstairs. Four armed men with guns and tasers were waiting. The guard had apparently called the armed response team because he didn’t trust that only four of us would sleep there and the others would leave. They said they were there to “count the heads.” After just two conversations about loud voices, the escalation alarmed us, but we let them go upstairs and check. Once there, they said they wanted to body-search us. The apartment had only women in it, and the armed team was all men, so we refused. We also couldn’t see what a body search had to do with a noise complaint. The men wouldn’t leave and kept insisting, and it turned into an altercation. The guard who called them then said he had spoken to the director and we had to leave. It was 10 pm. I called the manager and said that if she wanted us out in the middle of the night because we were uncomfortable with armed men body-searching us over a noise complaint, I wanted a full refund. She agreed, and we left. I still haven’t received any money back, and she won’t answer my calls or my friends’ calls. I’ve never felt so terrified and violated as when men with guns wanted to strip-search us over noise. Absolutely disgusting behavior. I can’t believe they allowed this on their premises, with women being manhandled for no apparent reason. You’ve been warned. I also posted this review on hello peter.

Weeks of calls and emails haven’t got our deposit returned. We’ve been given excuse after excuse by phone and email, and now they don’t reply to emails at all. When I call, they hang up as soon as they realize it’s me. Be careful trying to get your deposit back. We’ve reported these business practices and plan to take it further.

I checked in Sunday night, but the front desk wouldn’t give me a room card. They insisted I use their Mastercard each time I went back to my room. Nothing in the room worked, including the phone lines and intercoms. I tried to do laundry, but neither the washing machine nor the tumble dryer worked. Nobody seemed to know who I should speak to, and the number on the website went unanswered.

A fantastic stay, with excellent service and beautiful apartments that have all the amenities. I’ll definitely come back.
