Kitty was kind and welcoming, but the cottage itself left us uncomfortable, especially for R2000 per night. During the severe storm, water came through the roof onto the bed in one of the downstairs bedrooms, which felt like a safety concern. My family then had to share a small bed. The windows also wouldn't shut properly, so cold air came in during the storm. We found mold on the carpeted wall decor, the bath water swung between very hot and cold, and the stove couldn't bring water to a boil, even after we added boiling water to the pot. The stay didn't live up to the reviews or the price.

Kitty cooked a delicious dinner for us this year, pasta with a tasty tomato sauce and a lovely salad. Our family can be picky, but she pleased everyone and was warm and attentive throughout. Bluegum Cottage has become a family favourite, and we've stayed three times while returning from the Eastern Cape over the December holidays. It's comfortable, spotless, and full of character, with Kitty's artworks around the cottage. The splash pool was a welcome addition in the peaceful garden, and we'll certainly be back.

The safe parking near the cottage gave us peace of mind, and the beds were wonderfully comfortable, with soft cotton linen. My son and I had a fantastic stay at Bluegum Cottage. Kitty welcomed us warmly, and her creative touches make the place feel personal, from the ornaments and animal-and-flower window bars she designed to the front steps decorated with broken china cups and plates. The garden looks out over the Smithfield hills, and the splash pool was lovely for cooling off. I especially liked sleeping beside the ancient Bluegum tree right by the cottage. I'd love to know how old it is. Kitty's spaghetti bolognese, ordered ahead, was another highlight. Her hospitality and creativity made this a special place for either a stopover or a longer visit. Highly recommended.

Kitty made us feel welcome and offered a delicious home-cooked dinner, with generous portions that everyone enjoyed. The cottage was clean and quirky, with comfortable beds and good linen and towels. It was ideally placed halfway down to the Eastern Cape, and we liked it enough to book again for the return trip.

Kitty made Bluegum cottage feel so welcoming, and we really appreciated her fantastic hospitality. We had an amazing meal, slept in fabulous beds, and enjoyed a wonderful shower and bath.
