A great lodge, with a beautiful room and really friendly staff.

We’d been travelling across the country for two weeks and stayed in about ten different places. This was easily the worst service of the trip, which was really disappointing. The trouble was mainly at reception. We were charged more than the online price, and when we raised it, the staff were rude and hostile. If we hadn’t already paid at check-in, we would have left and found somewhere else. Paying a few hundred Rand extra was bad enough, but the way the issue was handled was unacceptable. The first woman who checked us in wasn’t the problem. We only went back to reception after noticing the higher charge, and a different staff member was there. They rejected our request to honor the price shown online and treated us disrespectfully. Breakfast staff also seemed unenthusiastic and unfriendly compared with staff at the other guest houses we visited. There was another odd moment after we checked in after 4pm. I was already in the room when cleaning staff knocked and asked if they could come in to prepare it, even though it was already clean and ready. I politely said there was no need. I’d expected room cleaning to happen in the morning, as it does at guest houses generally. Not impressed.
