Artist Cottage

We stayed in The Little Artists Cottage, which adjoins The Artist Cottage at the side. It was a pleasant, memorable stay, and the manageress kindly let us extend by an hour or two. The cottage is well equipped, though you’ll need to bring your own soap. The fire smoke filled the room, so we had to air it out now and then. Since the windows don’t open, that means opening the door, which could be awkward in really cold weather. The corrugated iron bathroom door is charming, but there isn’t much privacy, so you’d better know your roommate well 😂. We’d definitely go again. Thumbs up.

I liked having the fireplace and hot water bottles, and the bar and restaurant are close by. It’s a rustic stay right in the dorp, a good way to get the full Sutherland experience. I’d definitely recommend it.

The cottages are in a handy spot, with the local OK shop about 1 km away and a pub and restaurant across the road. There’s a play area for kids there, and the food was yummy. Inside, the cottages are fully equipped and kept us warm as the temperature dropped, with hot water bottles, heated wall panels, electric blankets, a steaming hot bath or shower, and a toasty fire. What a wonderful place, it really captures the beauty of the Karoo. It ticked all our boxes, and we’ll definitely visit again.
