Perlman House

The old, vintage-style house had plenty of room and felt quaint and comfortable. It had what we needed, though a few things could have been cleaner. The staff member who let us in and handed over the keys was lovely, and the cat, liefie, was the best part. The location brought a lot of road noise, and there were people fighting by the road from around 10pm each evening, apparently very intoxicated. With few safety measures, including a lack of security gates, we didn't feel safe. The photos also didn't match the accommodation we found. Three months after our stay, we started getting repeated messages saying we hadn't paid in full. I believe the owner handles payments. We would have paid gladly if we'd known, and settled the amount within an hour of being contacted. The problem was how we were approached, and that the payment hadn't been checked before we left or at least that same month. It left a bitter taste, and we won't return. Terrible service etiquette.

The unit was very clean, and it was nice that someone took care of the dishes. There’s a huge fridge-freezer, good-quality linen and electric blankets, which are a must in winter. The kitchen had everything we could think of needing. We also had an indoor fireplace and an indoor braai for when it was too cold to use the outdoor boma. The location was handy, just across from OK and a short walk from the planetarium for stargazing.

We had a great stay in the very tidy, eclectically furnished unit. Antonette gave us a really warm welcome. We also went to the Blue Moon for pizza, the food was excellent and the host was wonderful.

Our booking for Sutherland's long weekend was made three months ahead, since we knew there'd be little accommodation available. Then, a week before the visit, they cancelled it. Her response was, “NOT a debate.” She made no effort to find us somewhere else or show any concern that we'd be left stranded. The excuse, “there is no water,” felt feeble, and the whole thing was absolutely horrendous. Do not book here!
