I chose this place because of its good reviews, but was surprised by how poor it was when we arrived. There was no key, so we couldn’t open our room door. The bathroom had a toothbrush and shampoo left by a previous guest, and there was no toilet paper. I don’t think the room had been cleaned. After we complained, they moved us, but the A/C in the new room didn’t work. Durban can be hot in February, and the fan didn’t work during load shedding either. A tube was in the pool when we arrived and was still there when we left a day later. The pool was dirty, with sand all over the bottom. It’s a B&B, so I expected breakfast, but we couldn’t find any staff between 7am and 8am. We paid 80 USD for one night, which is expensive compared with much better options nearby. At that price, it’s 1/5. If I’d paid 20 USD, I’d rate it 4/5.

With so many B&Bs nearby, this one still stands out as the best. It has a sophisticated holiday feel and excellent food. The hosts appear when you need them, and somehow the place feels like your own private villa.
